George County residents vote against Pennies for Parks proposal

George County residents voted against the Pennies for Parks proposal.

The proposition was presented to voters to approve or reject a three percent hotel tax on lodging facilities in the county located outside Lucedale City limits and one percent sales tax on prepared food and beverages. The revenue collected from the tax would be used to maintain, manage, and create sports and recreational parks.

The proposal received 4,244 votes in favor of the proposal and 6,082 votes against the proposal.
