George County names James Ray new head football coach

As one era comes to an end at George County High School, another one begins.

Overshadowed by the suspenseful moment of truth at McKinnley Jackson’s National Signing Day, the Rebels found their new head football coach earlier this week in the form of James Ray.

“People get into coaching to be a 6A head football coach. So it’s been 26 years to get me here,” said Ray. “A lot of experience, a lot of lessons learned, a lot of mistakes to have overcome. So I’m excited about the opportunity to coach at this level. To coach in the region that we’re in and bring George County back to relevance.”

Ray came to George County four years ago and replaces former head coach Matt Caldwell.
