On May 9th, the Lady Rebels won the 2026 MHSAA Girls Flag Football State Championship title. Almost a month to the date, George County was ranked the Sixth best team in the nation by MaxPreps out of thousands of schools nationwide. Soon after the ranking, George County senior quarterback and safety Lani McDoniel was also named MaxPrep’s Mississippi Player of the Year!
Sports Director Ansley Brent met with coaches and team members of the Lady Rebel squad to discuss the many major milestones that have come their way. Lani McDoniel, Delanie McNair, Ava Hall and Mallory Evans hit on all the high notes including the game plan on the final, game winning play, what it’s like bringing the first State Title of it’s kind to their school and putting George County on a national map. Head Coach Lane Scott and Assistant Coach Holly Hulbert spoke on the girls tight bond the past two seasons and their hunger to compete and get better everyday.
McDoniel also spoke on what the player of the year honor means to her and why she enjoys playing both side.
