George County, East Central win first games of respective MHSAA State Championship series

HATTIESBURG, Miss (WXXV) – Two teams representing South Mississippi showed out in the first games of their respective MHSAA State Championship series on Tuesday evening.

In the 6A class, George County strung together timely hits and relied on a big pitching performance from Peyton Collins to pick up the 4-1 win over Neshoba Central. The Lady Rebels will go for their second title in the past three years in game two, which begins on Wednesday at 1:15 pm.

East Central kicked off 5A action with a dominant 10-3 win over Lafayette. The Lady Hornets added four runs in the first inning and five more in the fourth inning, never squandering their big lead. They’ll look to win their first championship since 2013 and sweep the series on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.

If a third game is necessary for either team, it will be played on Saturday at a time that is still undetermined.
