George County alum Justin Steele celebrates birthday at MLB All-Star Game

Yesterday was Justin Steele’s 28th birthday. It was also his son Beau’s first birthday. It was also Steele’s first-ever Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

The Chicago Cubs pitcher out of George County High School making Lucedale proud, pitching a scoreless fifth inning for the National League Team, allowing just one hit and no walks to go along with an inning-ending strikeout of Jonah Heim en route to the NL’s first win since 2012.

Former Biloxi Shucker Josh Hader gets credit for a hold in the 3-2 win. Just like old times, his locker right next to another former Shucker, Devin Williams, who didn’t pitch. Neither did yet another former Shucker Corbin Burnes, who won the 2021 NL Cy Young Award.

Finally, Mr. Triple Crown, Mississippi State alum Brent Rooker going 1-2 with a double in his first-ever All-Star game as a member of the Oakland Athletics.
