Gautier Rep. John Read Comments on New Appointment

Representative John Read of Gautier says it is an honor and a privilege to step into his new role as chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.
Read was appointed to the committee by Speaker of the House Philip Gunn. Read has served as a member of the Appropriations Committee for more than 20 years and has served as the vice chairmen of the committee for eight of those years.
Representative Read tells News 25 overseeing the state’s budget is not an easy task, but he’s looking forward to serving this session and bringing his experience to the role. “It’s going to be hard times. Budgets, as you’ve been reading, nationwide and statewide, our revenues are down a little bit. We’re not panicking, but we’re going to have to take what we have, get adequate funding to the agencies and try to do the best we can with what we have.”
Representative Read’s appointment comes after Representative Herb Frierson stepped down to take on the role of commissioner of revenue.
