Gautier PD warning residents of scam impersonating an officer

GAUTIER, Miss. (WXXV)- The Gautier Police Department is warning local businesses and residents that a scam is going around.

It is a phone scam that involves someone posing as a police lieutenant.

This person is saying they are Lt. Johnson. The caller says he is investigating counterfeit money being brought into the business and then questions the business’ safe and cash-handling procedures.

This person is refusing to give a case number.

Police say they will never call from a private number or request details like that.

You are advised to hang up and call Gautier Police to verify.
