Gautier names David Bever the new chief of police

Gautier has named David Bever as Gautier’s newest chief of police.

City Manager Paula Yancey announced Bever’s promotion this morning.

Bever, 40, has been with Gautier since 2005. He was promoted to sergeant in 2016 and lieutenant in 2017. He made captain in 2020.

“I have the utmost confidence in David’s ability to perform as the new chief,” Yancey said. “He has been devoted to Gautier for 17 years, has held almost every position within the department, is well respected by his peers, and will provide solid leadership to our officers.”

Bever said it’s been a goal of his to become a police chief.

“Since I have started my career in law enforcement, my goal has always been to be a Chief of Police someday,” Bever said. “I like challenges and will strive to make this department the best on the Coast.

“I feel that I can provide well rounded leadership to those around me,” he said. “I am committed to doing my part to ensure that I am continuously growing and educating myself so that we are a successful team at Gautier Police Department.”

Bever said his vision is “to provide the best services to the public and be a department where every officer wants to work,” he said.

Outgoing Chief Daniel Selover, who was appointed police chief in March 2020, announced in February that he would retire. His last day is March 25.
