Gautier Mayor Vaughan gives update on purchase of Singing River Mall Property
The City of Gautier purchased the former Singing River Mall Property and Mayor Casey Vaughan stopped by WXXV this morning to tell us more about the property plans.
The city made the $5 million purchase to transform the rundown property into a town commons park with an amphitheater and a performing arts site.
The 55-acre property was purchased using $3.5 million in Gulf Coast Restoration Funds as well as $1.5 million from the state’s legislature’s bond bill.
Mayor Vaughan says he wants to use this property to bring in shopping, dining, businesses, and entertainment experiences that Gautier residents had to previously travel elsewhere for. “Right now, they feel as like they have to go somewhere else. So, with something like this, they will be able to stay in their home community and support our city instead of going out somewhere else to enjoy a fun day, so they will be able to come.”
These models of the buildings were created by Allred Stolarski Architects and Seymour Engineering.
Mayor Vaughan said that this overall vision is not an overnight project and that it will take time to cultivate.
