Gautier mayor swears in

The City of Gautier now has a new mayor, Phil Torjusen was officially sworn in this evening.
Torjusen won 68 percent of the vote back in May of the primary elections against incumbent Gordon Gollott. There was no opposition in the June 6th elections.
Now that he takes the mayor’s seat, he says past administrations had troubles dealing with the economy and with that he plans on making some changes that address utilities and economic development. “Well, some of the key items that were on, the things that I kept hearing out on the campaign trail that really needed to be addressed is we need to address the water and sewer issues and provide good, quality water and sewer at a fair price for our citizens and our merchants. Then we need to have that in place and make sure we do quality economic development also. We need to address our economic development issues.”
Torjusen also has plans to fix up the Singing River Mall after it was demolished and wants to bring back the revenue stream it once had.
