Gautier mayor comments on councilman returning to seat

On April 16th, a racially charged comment was posted from Gautier Councilman Rusty Anderson’s Facebook account.

Anderson said his account was hacked and that he did not post the comment. The city requested proof that Anderson had been hacked.

Anderson returned to his seat Tuesday night, but was met with backlash. He has shown proof that an IP address in Laurel accessed his account around 6:28 p.m.

His neighbors say he was at his home in Gautier during this time.

Mayor Casey Vaughan says that no matter what happened the city does not agree with the comments made and will continue to uphold a standard. “We do not agree with everything being stated on that. We are not behind that. And that is not the city’s official government page. You know, we as the elected officials have to be mindful of things we say and or do because we represent everyone.”

The next council meeting will be May 16th at 6:30 p.m.
