Gautier Mayor Announces Grant to Fund Water Quality Improvement Project
Good news for Gautier residents—relief at last!
Gautier mayor Phil Torjusen has just announced the city will receive a $2.3 million dollar federal grant by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to help fund a water quality improvement project.
These RESTORE act funds will support critical citywide upgrades to Gautier’s wastewater system.
The mayor says that since 2009, Gautier residents have endured at least 54 sanitary sewer overflows from flooded wastewater systems, causing health and safety concerns, environmental damage, and irreparable damage to residents’ properties.
As part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast water quality improvement program and funds, the city will install a new sanitary sewer system consisting of gravity lines, force mains and a lift station with the new lines being installed along Old Spanish Trail and Gautier-Vancleave road.
