Gautier community gathers to remember former student Shermarion Miner
It was a night of remembrance at Vaughn-Wallace stadium at Gautier High School, as the community gathered for a vigil to mourn the loss of fifteen year old Shermarion Miner, a student at Gautier High who tragically died last Friday after collapsing at the school’s field house.
The turnout for his vigil, a sign of Shermarion’s impact on the community, as students, friends and family gathered to remember a young man who was a light for so many.
“Going through this grieving process, Shermarion was an unbelievable young man. Always had a smile on his face, always fun loving, great to be around, so it’s been tough for the kids,” said Gautier Football Head Coach, Marc High.
His teammates from the football team lighting candles in his honor and giving testimonials to some of their favorite Shermarion memories, with it becoming very apparent that he was the sort of person that could light up any room.
“Unbelievable character, great teammate, always had a smile on his face, always laughing, unbelievable personality. There’s a lot that’s going to be missed.”
One of Shermarion’s biggest passions in life was the football field, and head coach Marc High ensures that Shermarion’s memory will continue to live on in Gator football.
The Gautier Football JV Lineman Award will now be known as the Shermarion Miner JV Lineman Award.
A funeral service is planned for Sunday January 19th at 2pm at Healer National Healing Center on Martin Bluff Road.
