Gary Sarnoff Speaks at Baseball Luncheon
Where Major League Baseball players stayed in Biloxi, what they did for fun and how they like their seafood where all talked about today at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum.
Baseball historian and author Gary Sarnoff shared stories from the days when MLB teams held spring training camps in Biloxi.
Seats keep filling up for the “Our Love Affair with Baseball” luncheon. All who attended today took a road trip back to the 1900s when teams like the Washington Senators and the Philadelphia Phillies stayed right here on the Coast and played at the Biloxi stadium. “The Washington Senators had a very good team when they were here. They won more than 90 games in the early 1930s for four consecutive seasons when their spring training was here in Biloxi. They won the 1933 American League pennant. Washington baseball and baseball in general has a wonderful history here in Biloxi,” said Sarnoff.
Former Washington Senator Buddy Myers’ niece was also in the crowd.
WXXV is a proud sponsor of the weekly luncheon speaker series. Reservations are available online at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art’s website.
Next Friday, MLB local Barry Lyons will have the mic.
