Gartman’s Tree Farm
Many of us have Christmas traditions. Picking out the perfect tree in South Mississippi’s own back yard is one of them for some Coast families. News 25’s Bryan Kennedy ventured out to Gartman’s Tree Farm in Saucier and shows us how one local family is sprucing up their holiday this year.
Like father, like sons. For the third year in a row, the Eaton family combed through the wooded area in search of the perfect Christmas tree. For this Coast family, there is nothing like the real thing. “You don’t get the real Christmas spirit when you get something artificial. You got to go to the yard and cut them down,” said Maurice Eaton.
That’s just what families have been doing at Gartman’s Tree Farm since it sprung up in 1989. While Gartman’s is slightly off the beaten path, it’s a popular spot as customer accounts of picking out the perfect tree here spread like wildfire.
Owner Danny Gartman says this farm is a family business that requires time, patience and hard work but it’s worth it. “Being able to see the kids and families and all of them come out here and join us year after year. We started selling to people back many years ago and now we are selling to those kids.”
Terri Cade with Gartman’s Tree Farm said, “You get a choice. You can either cut it yourself or we can cut it for you. They like to stand out there and watch the whole process. Some people don’t like cutting it themselves. Some families, they have family traditions and they like to do that.”
“The Gartmans are great people. They take care of things. When you come out here, they help you in everything you need. If you want a specific size, specific place, they know the yard. They know everything,” said Maurice Eaton.
