Gaming revenue continues to show growth
Statewide gaming revenue was up last month around ten percent according to gaming experts.
This is being attributed to sports betting which began on the Mississippi Coast a few months ago. The gaming experts also tell News 25 that statewide gaming revenue has been fairly stagnant over the past decade, but since sports betting was introduced those numbers are finally showing positive growth.
Gaming revenue isn’t the only thing benefiting from this new style of gambling, other areas like retail and dining are expected to see a growth in sales. Gaming expert Michael Sunderman said, “Another exciting thing with the sports betting is we’re seeing gamblers from all over the place, especially from out of state, not only spending more money on sports betting, but they’re staying overnight. They’re spending money in the shops and definitely in the casino and dining amenities, too, which is helping out the casinos even more.”
Gaming experts also believe next month will continue to show growth since a few casinos are still in the process of adding sports betting.
