Funeral service for fallen George County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Malone
The funeral service for fallen Deputy Jeremy Malone was held Friday at Agricola Baptist Church in Lucedale.
Deputy Malone was killed on January 4th during a traffic stop. He leaves behind a wife and three daughters.
Numerous police agencies as well as Governor Tate Reeves were at the funeral to pay their respects.
Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter said, “No, never in my lifetime, would I have ever imagined that I would be standing before you on this day, in this place, and on this occasion to deliver words of a eulogy for our friend and our brother Deputy Jeremy Malone. He was devoted and he was dedicated — dedicated to his career, devoted to the field of law enforcement and dedicated to his department, dedicated to his family and his friends and he was dependable, someone you could call on at any time. Jeremy, thank you for your service.”
Chaplain Tommy Mitchell said, “He loved this law enforcement family and the evidence of that is represented here today and outside this building. And when I say that all of law enforcement has lost a great friend it is true. But I can tell you that Malone would be blown away by all of you here. Malone absolutely would be amazed at this outturn of support for him. He was such a great guy, such a humble guy. He would want everybody to take heart and be encouraged — to look forward to another day.”
Governor Tate Reeves said, “Today we come together to mourn the loss of George County Sheriff Deputy Jeremy Todd Malone — a hero in every sense of the word. Deputy Malone gave his life while protecting and serving his community. The entire state of Mississippi is grieving with you and we stand in awe of the incredible life Deputy Malone lived.”
