Funeral for retired Pascagoula Police Captain Shannon Massey

Today in Jackson County, family, friends, and colleagues gathered for the funeral of retired Pascagoula Police Captain James Deshannon Massey also known as Shannon Massey.

On November 25th, Massey died after a courageous fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his immediate family who will continue honoring his legacy and remembering him and the many titles he carried throughout his life.

Some of those include United States Marine, Pascagoula police captain, National FBI Academy graduate class 264, esteemed father, and loving husband.

More than 600 people came to pay their respects at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Moss Point and shared stories about the good man he was. Neighbor Randall Cobb said, “I’m the only child. So, Shannon was like a brother to me. Half of me died last week, but his legacy and everything you see will live on for many years. His fingerprints are on everything.”

VFW Post 3373 Commander Jeff Barnes said, “I’m just glad that he no longer suffers and that we all know he is in a better place and we will see him again.”

Captain Massey was buried at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
