Fundraiser in honor of Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputy Leroy Barnes

Harrison County Sheriff Deputy Leroy Barnes drowned Saturday morning while canoeing on Adams Lake. Now, the sheriff’s office is rallying around his family to host a benefit.

Each year, the Harrison County Deputy Sheriff’s Association hosts a smoked pork butt Christmas benefit, but this year all the proceeds will go towards the Barnes family.

The pork butts are $35 each and orders can be placed until December 20th with pickup on December 21st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Harrison County Work Center on Lorraine Road. Harrison County Sheriff’s Captain Matt Haley said, “He was a great officer. Everybody loved him. The calls that we have received, not just here on a local level, but all over the state, has been overwhelming. It’s close to the holidays and we would really like to come together for the family and help them out in any way we possibly can.”
