Fundraiser for Man Battling Cancer

A Gulf Coast businessman battling cancer receives an outcry of support during a fundraiser tonight in Gulfport.
Thirty-one year-old Steve Johnson, also known as Scuba Steve, is most known for selling his t-shirts at festivals and hugging every familiar face that walks by.
Tonight, Scuba Steve had the chance to reunite with some of those familiar faces during a fundraiser at Taco Sombrero off of Highway 49. A certain percentage of tonight’s proceeds were donated toward Scuba Steve’s medical bills.
He tells News 25 the love of his community is what keeps him “scuba strong.” “When you go through cancer treatment, it really bogs you down and mentally you need that support and my community has lifted me up mentally, physically, I’ve just really gotten up. The support is incredible. I can’t say thank you enough. Thank you doesn’t seem enough. My customers are family and this is incredible.”
Scuba Steve shirts and “Scuba Strong” wristbands were also on sale throughout the fundraiser.
