Funding for Coast harbor dredging in Gulfport and Pascagoula Harbors

The Army Corps of Engineers will allocate an additional $67.5 million this fiscal year in Mississippi, funding dredging projects at the Gulfport and Pascagoula harbors.
The work plan includes $3 million more for dredging the Gulfport Harbor Channel and one million more for similar work at the Pascagoula Harbor.
Senator Roger Wicker tells News 25 this will create more jobs and economic development. Senator Roger Wicker said, “This means jobs for Mississippians. It means increased goods for Mississippians. I think often times we forget that 95 percent of the consumers in the world don’t live in the United States of America. They’re out there in other countries and we like to manufacture things and sell them, we like to grow things here in Mississippi.”
The work plan also includes funding for the Eastern Jackson County Consolidated Water Reclamation Facility. That project will reclaim treated waste water from Moss Point and Pascagoula to benefit the Jackson County Industrial Park.
