Front Beach Erosion Control Improvements

In Ocean Springs, there is plenty of work happening on Front Beach.

Walking past it you might see construction which is all part of Jackson County’s Erosion Project, adding new pipes and concrete swells.

The area has had issues with draining and the improvements should help water drain more adequately and better prevent erosion.

Don’t get too used to this beach front view though. It’s all expected to change in about a month.

The $1 million project is expected to be completed in mid-June. Jackson County Project Manager Matthew Hosey said, “It does look like a mess right now. We are actively working on it. Once this project is done, the city is going to do a small living shoreline project around one of the outfalls there. That will help provide a little bit more marsh grass.”

The next project will be a beach wide sand re-nourishment project to get the
sand levels where they should be.
