From Assistant Teacher to Superintendent: Meet Dr. Caterria Payton of Pascagoula – Gautier School District

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV) – The Pascagoula-Gautier School District is welcoming a new, yet familiar face as its superintendent. Dr. Caterria Payton, who has been with the district for over 25 years, began her career as an assistant teacher.

Now, more than two decades later, she’s stepping into the district’s top leadership role. Before her new appointment, Dr. Payton served as assistant superintendent and spent six years as principal of Pascagoula High School.

Pascagoula Gautier School District students will return to class on July 23rd, as part of their monthly flex schedule for the 2025 – 2026 school year.
