Freedom Over Ocean Springs draws Crowd for fireworks, food and family fun

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV) — The City of Discovery kicked off its Independence Day celebrations a day early Friday evening as residents and visitors gathered at Fort Maurepas Park for the annual Freedom Over Ocean Springs event.

Hundreds enjoyed a picture-perfect evening along Front Beach, taking in the sunset while enjoying local food vendors, live music and family-friendly activities before the night concluded with a fireworks spectacular over the water.

Earlier in the evening, Ocean Springs Mayor Bobby Cox spoke about the importance of bringing the community together to celebrate the nation’s birthday.

The annual event was made possible through a partnership between the City of Ocean Springs, the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson County Board of Supervisors.

As the fireworks illuminated the night sky, Freedom Over Ocean Springs once again provided residents and visitors with a festive start to the Fourth of July weekend on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
