Free saltwater sport fishing day
If you are looking to fish today, but don’t have a license, you’re in luck.
The Department of Marine Resources has designated today as free salt water sport fishing day which means anyone can fish for free even those without a license.
With today being a day of celebration of our country, dozens of people hit the water this morning to try and hook some fish.
Fisherman Ryan Doherty brought his six-year-old son, Charlie, to Point Cadet Marina to cast their reels to celebrate the Fourth and have some father-son bonding time. “This is the first time he has been out here. I come out here a lot. This is one of my regular spots. Just get out nice and early and see if we can catch anything to eat tonight. I think we are going to go watch the fireworks later tonight and I don’t know maybe go to a park or something.”
Unlicensed anglers are allowed to sport fish in salt waters below Interstate 10, but other rules and regulations still apply to catches.
