Four members of the Vancleave baseball team signed to play at the next level
It was an exciting afternoon at Vancleave High School as students signed their letters of intent to play baseball at the next level. The Bulldog baseball facility was filled with proud coaches, teammates, families, and friends as four Vancleave baseball players put pen to paper to further their baseball careers.
The four senior signings include Tyler West, Layton Eder, Asher Henley, and Hunter Parker.
West, Eder, and Henley will get to continue their Bulldog status with MGCCC, while Parker heads north to join the squad at Meridian Community College.
The four seniors tell News 25 what this day and moment means to them.
“It felt like a dream come true, ” said West. “Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always thought about going to college and playing at the next level. It’s overwhelming. I chose Perk because I felt like I was still at home, I didn’t really have to go that far, I’m still close to the water so I can still fish!”
“It’s a dream come true. Ever since I was little that’s all I ever wanted to do, just go play college baseball,” said Eder. “The community comes behind us, our home games are always packed. It’s a great atmosphere.”
“I love the coaches and the whole school just felt like somewhere I could learn and play baseball efficiently and I’d love to be there,” said Henley. “Their support means everything and it really pushes me to be my best and it helps during games, and knowing you have a community that rallies around you.
“It feels real and it’s all starting to come together, ” said Parker. “All the hard work me and the guys have put in with each other, it’s all coming together and feels so real. I felt like I was at home when I went on my visit and it’s just a passion I have about baseball. I love football but when it comes to baseball there’s just something that comes to me when I’m playing baseball.”
A few of the bulldogs are also on the football team, and we’re proud of them recently making the playoffs!
