Fort Massachusetts hosting candlelight tour

Darkest Before the Light: Fort Massachusetts Candlelight Tours on Friday, Oct. 25.

Fort Massachusetts is hosting a candlelight program on October 25th.

Witness the breathtaking natural darkness of Mississippi’s most visited barrier island while encountering scenes from the fort’s storied, and often dark past. Rangers will detail the struggle, perseverance, triumph, and loss of the soldiers, prisoners, and freedom seekers who occupied the island and fort over the course of the American Civil War.

During the candlelight tour, the Ship Island ferry leaves Gulfport at 5 PM and returns at 10 PM.

Historic demonstrators in Civil War clothing will recreate scenes from the fort’s past.

Tickets must be purchased in advance online or at Ship Island’s main building.
