Former Vancleave baseball head coach Justin Edwards officially announced as the new head coach at Gulfport high school

Eight days after winning the 2nd baseball state championship ever at Vancleave high school, Justin Edwards informed his team Monday morning that he will be taking the head coaching job at Gulfport high school.

Edwards spent six seasons with the Admirals as an assistant coach prior to spending six season as the head coach with the Vancleave Bulldogs. Sports 25 had the chance to speak with Edwards moments after he met with his team on Monday. He spoke about what Vancleave has meant to him throughout his time as the Bulldogs head coach.

“As much as I am at peace and happy about the decision and know that it is where I belong for so many reasons, it’s also just that much more difficult to be saying goodbye to these people here,” he said. “This has been home to me for the last six years. I have been welcomed and I have been blessed with so many good kids and they have left their mark on me. These hugs and these handshakes, I am glad that I am wearing sunglasses because it has been a pretty tough day to be honest.”

There has not yet been a decision as to who will replace Edwards as the Vancleave head coach. An interview process is expected to begin soon.
