Former Suspect in Ja’naya Thompson Case Speaks Out
Sentencing for the man who admitted to the brutal killing then five year old Janaya Thompson will begin today.
Thompson’s body was found in a trailer on Whitney Drive in July 2014 near the apartment complex where she lived with her family in Gulfport.
After originally pleading not guilty, Alberto Garcia changed his plea in court last Wednesday. Describing how he sexually assaulted little Janaya before hanging her in the bathroom.
Kevin Ely was neighbors with Janaya and Garcia. He says he searched for Janaya all night when she was believed to be missing.
Eventually he became a suspect in the case, saying that changed his life drastically. “I’m always upset because I feel bad for the family and for Janaya. I want justice for the Thompson family and Janaya. When I was in for questioning I told officers whatever they want I’ll cooperate. If they want DNA I’ll give them DNA. Can’t see her smiling anymore, it’s always good to know your neighbors. Always.”
Garcia faces either life without parole or the death penalty.
