Former State Senator Robertson Indicted for Embezzlement

Former State Senator, Tommy Robertson, has been indicted on five counts of embezzlement, according to District Attorney, Tony Lawrence.

Robertson is accused of using his position as board attorney for Singing River Federal Credit Union to embezzle almost $485,000 worth of loan proceeds. Robertson surrendered himself to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and was released on a $50,000 bond. He served in the State Senate from 1992 to 2008.

Lawrence says, "First thing, I want to thank and commend the auditor’s office for agreeing to come in and help Jackson County with this investigation. It was a very thorough investigation. As you know, these things take a lot of time and this has been going on for a while now, but the five count indictment is a result of the citizens here in the proof of that investigation, and I think it’s an indication that the citizens won’t stand for any corruption of any sort by anybody."

The crimes were alleged to have occurred in April of 2013.
