Former Southern Miss QB Training for NFL Draft in Madison
Former Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens set plenty of records during his time in Hattiesburg, but there are other numbers working against his favor as he trains for what he hopes is an opportunity in the NFL.
Mullens is 6’1” which isn’t ideal and he’s coming off an injury filled senior year with the Golden Eagles. Height and health aside, he was still able to break USM’s career marks for passing yards and touchdowns while leading the Black and Gold to their first bowl win since 2011.
Now Mullens, who is training at the Madison Healthplex and Performance Center, says he admires the work of a pair of future Hall of Famers, neither of which were first round picks. “Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Obviously the short pocket passer, kind of like Drew Brees. You’ve got to admire him. He’s very smart. Great decision maker. And Tom Brady being a Super Bowl winning quarterback as well, he just encompasses all things quarterback. So those are the two guys I look up to the most.”
NFLdraftscout.com lists Mullens as the 31st best QB prospect in the year’s draft class.
