Former Picayune Mayor Gregory Mitchell Sr. dies

PICAYUNE, Miss. (WXXV)- The City of Picayune is mourning the loss of a former mayor.

Gregory Mitchell Sr. was laid to rest today. He was 84-years-old and is survived by his wife, two children, and three grandchildren.

Mitchell served four terms as mayor of Pearl River County’s largest city after previously serving on the city council.

In the private sector, Mitchell worked in various roles at NASA’s Stennis and Michoud Facilities.

In a statement, current Picayune Mayor Jim Luke says Mitchell was the definition of a dedicated public servant.
