Former Pascagoula City Councilman Joe Abston passes

Sunday, a former Pascagoula councilman and current finance manager at the Jackson County Port Authority lost his battle with COVID-19.

Fifty-one-year-old Joe Abston was moved to the intensive care unit at Singing River Thursday where he was on a ventilator and 100 percent oxygen.

After ten days in the hospital with COVID-pneumonia, Abston passed away Sunday.

Many are taking to Facebook to express their condolences for the beloved councilman, including a former co-worker and friend, Frank Corder who said, “Joe was a family and community-minded man if there ever was one. He loved his wife, Missy, and their two daughters greatly. He served in his church, in civic clubs, in public office, and on the high school football field. He was a man of strong convictions, yet always found a positive and humor in even life’s most challenging times.”

The Abston family is sponsoring a COVID vaccine drive Thursday, August 19th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pascagoula Performing Arts Center in honor of Joe.
