Former Ocean Springs police chief Carolyn Frayser dies
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)- The Ocean Springs Police Department is mourning the loss of a trailblazer in Mississippi law enforcement history.
The department announced retired Police Chief Carolyn Frayser died in late May.
Frayser made history when she was named Ocean Springs police chief in 1989, becoming the first woman municipal police chief in state history.
Department leaders say her legacy is one of breaking barriers, perseverance, and service.
A celebration of life for Frayser will be held on June 20 at the Ocean Springs Senior Citizens Center. Her family says donations can be made in her memory to the Tunnel to Tower’s Foundation.
