Former Moss Point Mayor Mario King begins his 30-month sentence
Former Moss Point Mayor Mario King begins serving his 30-month sentence today.
This sentence comes after he and his wife Natasha each plead guilty earlier this year to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
The Kings were accused of soliciting funds in late 2018 for a gala that was held in March 2019.
Donors were told proceeds from the gala were going to support the efforts of mental health in the City of Moss Point.
Instead, prosecutors said the money went toward paying off the event and personal purchases.
King is currently serving the sentence at FCI El Reno, a federal institution in El Reno, Oklahoma.
Natasha King was sentenced to probation and was ordered to pay $5,500 in fines.
