Former Mississippi State pitcher shining with Memphis Redbirds
Up in Memphis, former Mississippi State pitcher Dakota Hudson is just begging for a call up to the show.
A first round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016, Hudson already has ten wins this season to go along with a sparkling 2.04 ERA with the Triple-A Redbirds.
It would make sense to promote the 23-year-old right hander with Michael Wacha on the disabled list, but the only thing working against Hudson is the fact that he doesn’t have a spot on the 40 man roster.
Until he gets the call, Hudson says it’s just business as usual. “Nah. I’m just playing, honestly. Like, you come to the field, things happen. I mean guys do occasionally go down, which you never want to see cause you meet those guys and you’re friends with them at spring training and you just wish them the best. But you just come to the ball field and be ready to play and if that’s something they need and you’re the guy they want, then you go. Trying to get things rolling, you know? Guys have been going up and down a lot so there haven’t been a whole lot of starters here consistently, so I’m just trying to eat as many innings as I can and keep our bullpen fresh.”
In Hudson’s last start on Saturday, the former Bulldog chewed up eight innings of one-run ball.
