Former Long Beach Officer Sentenced
A former Long Beach police officer was sentenced to serve 24 years in prison for the statutory rape of his teenage girlfriend while on duty.
Forty-five year-old Patrick Klis had previously pled guilty to two counts of statutory rape of the then 15-year-old girl. Investigators uncovered 9,000 pages of Facebook messages and pictures between the two. Officials say Klis would sneak the teenager out of her house and have sex with her while on duty.
In today’s hearing, Harrison County District Attorney Joel Smith said, “There is no excuse for these predatory crimes against children in our community, especially when committed by someone whose job was to protect and serve.”
