Former Gulfport High Pitcher Grabs win in the NJCAA Division II Championship

The Jones County Junior College baseball team took home the NJCAA Division II national championship on Saturday. The final win came at the hands of a former Gulfport High School Pitcher.
Bobcats freshman Ben Stiglets picked up the win over Gateway College of Arizona in a 7-1 victory Saturday night in Oklahoma. Stiglets pitched a complete nine inning game, allowing one run on eight hits and striking out eight as he improved to 10-0.
Today, Stiglets stopped by WXXV to tell News 25 how it feels to be a champion and how it feels to represent the Coast on a national level. “The last inning, my coach said, “You’re going back out there.” And I said, ‘Alright, Coach. Let’s go win a ball game.’ Our right fielder threw it in and he got the tag on him and the whole team rushed out. I just kind of sat there for a second, just amazed at what we just did. My old high school coach texted me and said ‘congratulations.’ and I said, ‘Thanks coach, I learned it from you.'”
Stiglet says he’s looking forward to the summer to strength and condition in hopes of winning a back-to-back championship next year.
