Former Gulfport baseball star continues his professional career with the Texas Rangers
One former Coast star has recently made headlines as Gulfport high school alum Jonathan Holder recently signed a minor league baseball deal with the Texas Rangers.
Holder graduated from Gulfport in 2011 and then went on to play at Mississippi State for the Bulldogs. After his junior season, Holder was drafter in the 6th round of the 2014 MLB draft by the New York Yankees.
In January, Holder signed a deal that would continue his professional career with last years World Series winners, the Texas Rangers.
Holder spoke on what it has been like to pitch alongside some of the best to ever do it by saying, “Yeah it has been a blessing over my whole career, you know, this will be my 11-th professional season. I’ve been fortunate to be around some hall of famers. Some guys that have been able to show me the ropes and how it is supposed to be done. I’m excited – there’s some good guys on the rangers…Scherzer, DeGrom, and you know they are coming off a World Series too – just getting to hear what it’s like from these guys that have played and gotten to actually pitch in the World Series…that’ll be interesting.”
