Former Golden Eagles McCarty, Robinson sign professional contracts
Southern Miss alum Kirk McCarty made his Major League Baseball debut in 2022 and now ready to make a different kind of debut in 2023.
This week, the former Golden Eagle signed a professional contract with the SSG Landers from the Korea Baseball Organization, or KBO.
A seventh-round selection of the Cleveland Guardians back in 2017, McCarty finally made it to the show with the team that drafted him this season, posting a 4.54 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 37-and-two-thirds innings.
McCarty won two Conference USA championships during his time at USM with an overall record of 22-4 on the mound.
Another former Golden Eagle making waves this week, Chuckie Robinson signed a new minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds and was invited to Big League spring training.
In 2022, Robinson got his first taste of Big League action and showed off Big League power with two of his eight hits leaving the yard.
The big bat backstop was drafted in the 21st round by the Astros in 2016.
