Former Gautier officer sentenced for using city gas card for personal vehicle

A former Gautier police officer was sentenced for using a city gas card to pay for fuel for his personal vehicle.
Eric Maye was sentenced in Jackson County Circuit Court to 5 years of house arrest and 5 years probation and ordered to repay nearly $1,500 and fines.
State Auditor Shad White said Maye pleaded guilty to embezzlement. He was arrested in January 2023 and served with a demand letter for repayment of $1,433.43.
Maye was using the city’s FuelMan gas card to purchase fuel for his personal vehicle. The gas card is intended to be used to purchase fuel for the city-owned police vehicle.
Maye’s sentence will run concurrently with a conviction from a case investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations. Both cases were prosecuted by District Attorney Angel McIlrath’s office.
