Former D’iberville City Manager Out of Prison
The former city manager for D’iberville has been transferred to a halfway house to finish out his 21 month sentence for a fraud conviction.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons tells the Sun Herald, Michael Janus will be released from custody by January 22nd. He must then serve three years on probation. Prosecutors say Janus fraudulently obtained an $180,000 finder’s fee for a company he co-owned with business man Scott Walker. Prosecutors say the fee was paid by the city for helping D’iberville acquire a 3 million dollar Mississippi Department of Environmental quality grant.
Janus pleaded guilty in 2014 to defrauding the city by steering a 6 percent commission on a 3 million dollar grant to a company Walker controlled. The grant was to help build the planned ocean expo.
