Former Biloxi mayor passes at the age of 93

Sad news out of Biloxi this afternoon as former state legislator and three term mayor of Biloxi and former county court judge Daniel ‘Danny’ Guice has passed away.
Guice was found dead today at the age of 93.
Current Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich had this to say about his death: “Danny Guice was a beloved individual. He was a benevolent leader who made this city proud. Our prayers are with his family today.”
Guice served as mayor from 1961 through 1973 leading the city through some of its most difficult periods. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “He oversaw the city’s most turbulent era you could say, in the 1960’s with the beach wade-ins and with Hurricane Camille, yet he was a beloved leader. I mean, to go through those turbulent times and still be beloved until the day you die is remarkable.”
Guice helped to create the state port in Gulfport as well as the Harrison County Development Commission. He also played a key role in building a bridge between Biloxi and Ocean Springs.
