Former Biloxi councilman sentenced to six years in drug case

Former Biloxi Councilman Robert L. Deming will spend six years in federal prison after pleading guilty in a drug case from 2023.

Deming faced up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.

In addition to the 72 months in prison, Deming also will have three years of supervised release and a $5,000 fine. There is no eligibility for parole.

As part of the case built by the Drug Enforcement Agency, almost $2 million in cash and bank accounts were seized when Deming’s house was raided on January, 26, 2023. In addition to the money, a Ford F350 that was detailed with the name of his kratom business, The Candy Shop, also was seized.

He resigned from the Biloxi City Council in May after he pleaded guilty to the federal indictment.

The other two charges he faced were dropped as part of the guilty plea.

He was given time before he has to report so he can shut down his law practice and because he is not considered a flight risk.
