Former Bay High standouts hold basketball camp
Two former Bay High basketball standouts and current professional players made a return to their high school over the weekend.
Former Mississippi State star Tolu Smith and brother Galen Smith Jr. hosted a free youth skills camp Saturday morning in Bay High’s gym. Tolu is a current forward for the Detroit Pistons while Galen plays professionally overseas.
The camp centered around teaching students to embrace challenges and reach goals on and off the court. “It feels great to come home. Obviously, it’s something that we want to put on for our community, giving back to the community that gave so much to us. So, it was just a great feeling to come out here this morning, give back to these little kids.”
“Oh, it means everything, you know, just paying it forward what somebody did for us in the past, that means it all. That’s all it is.”
“I go to Detroit on the 15th, training camp after that, we’ll see what God has in my favor. Want to say thank you to Coach Kelton. Thank you to all the sponsors that help support and thank you to Bay High.”
The brothers say they plan on holding this camp annually.
