Forensic pathologist still needed

South Mississippi takes a step back in the process of hiring a forensic pathologist.
The position has been vacant on the Coast since the passing of Dr. Paul McGarry in January 2015. Since then, investigators have been transferring bodies to and from Jackson, causing delays in major cases and reports.
Dr. Ken Clark of Syracuse, New York was in the process of transitioning into the position in February, but eventually turned it down.
Local coroners say hiring a pathologist will not only save the Coast money, it will allow coroners to attend autopsies as well.
