Flooding in Lafitte, Louisiana
Ida is now a tropical depression after spending 16 hours as a hurricane over Louisiana and Mississippi and the storm left behind plenty of destruction.
Hurricane Ida left scores of coastal Louisiana residents trapped by floodwaters.
Federal officials say hundreds of emergency responders are in place in Louisiana and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has power restoration experts and generators at the ready as Hurricane Ida bashed the region.
The Coast Guard prepositioned vessels for deep water search and rescue efforts. Other states also sent teams to help with ground and water rescue.
President Joe Biden said federal support would remain in the region for as long as it takes.
