Flooding causing road closures in central Harrison County
Over the last two days, central Harrison County has received over 12 inches of rainfall. Flood warnings are issued near the Biloxi River and Wolf River due to heavy rain and streets have become water ways.
Rainfall has heavily affected low-lying areas. Water draining down into water ways and rivers is becoming a problem for residents who live along the Biloxi River.
Roads are blocked off on Three Rivers Road and River Road, Bonnie Street, and Ann Avenue.
Harrison County EMA Director Matt Stratton advises residents to avoid any flooded areas, certainly if you encounter flooding while driving to ‘turn around, don’t drown’ and be as safe as possible until waters recede. “We will still be under a flood warning into tomorrow for both the Biloxi River and the Wolf River. The flood advisory that was put out for flash flooding earlier today has been canceled as the rain has finally lifted out of the county. But there’s still a slight chance of rain tomorrow and even more of a chance of rain on Friday and we’re going to have to continue to closely monitor this situation.”
Residents near Biloxi River should be extremely caution as rain will continue throughout the week only adding more water to water ways and rivers.
