Fletcher Construction to Work on Museum

The City of Pascagoula is one step closer to making the new Mississippi Maritime Museum a reality.
Pascagoula signed a contract with Fletcher Construction to begin $500,000 worth of renovations as well as drawing up plans for the new museum.
Phase one of museum construction includes turning what was once the old Pascagoula High School band and shop hall on Dupont Avenue into the maritime activity center. Half of the over 7,000 square feet of space will be used for seminars, room for hands-on group projects. The other half will be for offices, conference rooms and artifact storage. President Emeritus of MS Maritime Museum Jack Hoover said, “Gonna bring in tourists because we’re going to have interactive exhibits. It’s going to be one of the most up to date museums around anywhere. It will help in the economics of the city.”
Hank Torjusen with Fletcher Construction Company said, “It means a lot. We’re a local company. We’ve been here since the ‘60s. We’re very proud of this. It’s big for the city. It’s in design now. We’ve got another month or two to get the permits and we should be moving, about a five to six month completion after that.”
Phase two of the project will be turning the old Pascagoula High math and science hall into the actual 17,000 square foot museum.
