Fishing the South hosts meet and greet at Shrimp Basket in Ocean Springs

We are getting into the heat of crawfish season as spring approaches.

The Shrimp Basket in Ocean Springs teamed up with some pretty popular social media influencers to give you more of that local flavor.

You may have seen them going viral on TikTok or you might have heard of them through YouTube or Instagram, but Saturday night was the chance to meet them in person. Well known for their crawfish reviews, social media influencers Josh Harmon and Jimmy Powell of Fishing the South hosted a meet and greet and a raffle giveaway Saturday night at the Shrimp Basket where one lucky winner went home with a brand new 65-inch TV. Chief Operating Officer Kevin Nagle said, “These guys are the social media presence in this town. If you go out there and start looking for people doing cool things, out here, these are the guys you want to follow.”

The Shrimp Basket in Ocean Springs is staying true to the motto ‘keep it local.’ “We really want to be a local presence. We’re not based out of Ocean Springs. We’re a small chain restaurant, but we want to be local. We want to make relationships here locally and we want to do things here in this community.”

Area Manager Sarina Mason said, “We really take pride in everything we do. We take pride in employing local people to run our restaurants. Our kitchen manager is from Ocean Springs, all of our staff is from Ocean Springs. We really just want to give back to the community.”

So does Fishing in the South, who shared some of their secret recipe Crawfish Saturday night. Powell said, “I don’t normally cook for people. Usually, it’s just a backyard thing. I have my group of friends always telling me it’s great crawfish. Ever since we started doing our crawfish reviews, they were like let’s just branch out and let people try your crawfish.”

There might be some additions coming to the menu. Harmon said, “If you want some great crawfish, I think we are going to have a little recipe here. If you come to Shrimp Basket, ask for Jimmy’s Crawfish.”
